Teresa E. Lozano, MD, DDS
Dr. Lozano pursued her Dental degree at the Central University of Venezuela, at the town where she grew up, Caracas. During her school years she developed a passion for the surgical aspects of the profession. After graduation she worked as a resident at a prestigious Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Practice in Caracas under the mentorship of Dr. Jorge I. Ravelo, one of the most renowned surgeons in Venezuela. She then decided to expand her knowledge moving to the US and joining a Residency Program in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at the University of Miami/Jackson Memorial Hospital. She was selected to participate in a dual degree program also earning a degree in Medicine from the University of Miami. She was given an award for “Best Surgical Skills” upon graduation. After her residency was completed she then pursued another year of Residency in Anesthesiology at the same institution to gain more knowledge on this very important aspect of patient management.
During her school years she participated in multiple medical/dental missions at the US and abroad. This is one of the ways she has expanded her horizons and kept in touch with the deep meaning of our profession. She takes part as volunteer faculty at the University of Florida, College of Dentistry, Hialeah Dental Clinic. She has participated as a speaker at multiple national and international specialty meetings. She has published articles and chapters in professional Journals and Clinics. Education has remained one of her interests because preparing our colleagues for the future remains paramount. What we pass on to the younger generation is going to continue to make surgery even better in the years to come. She also thinks it is extremely important to maintain patient education, keeping our patients informed so that they can prevent, treat and rehabilitate better from their oral ailments.
A very committed surgeon, Dr. Lozano has been in private practice since 2003 in conjunction with Dr. Joe Garri. They are joining efforts, together with Dr. Rafael Alcalde, now in our brand new facility at South Miami Hospital. She has remained in the practice of full scope Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. With a solid knowledge in both medicine and dentistry Dr. Lozano is specially qualified to pursue her clinical interest in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery.
